Emergency Measures  -  Covid19

During these difficult times we have to drastically change the way we offer our services to the Community

  • to reduce footfall in the surgery to minimise the risk of spreading the virus and to protect staff
  • offer best advice on how to manage if you become ill
  • continue to provide care for non-COVID19 related conditions as best we can

If you are normally healthy and have mild symptoms you should manage this yourself by observing strict self isolation and treating your symptoms as you would any viral illness.  You need to isolate for 7 days from the start of your symptoms and any people in your household have to isolate for 14 days.  Full details and further advice are available on the NHSInform website.  Please do not phone the surgery or 111 unless your condition is deteriorating.

If your symptoms are deteriorating and you feel you need further assessment this will be carried out initially by phone at a new service run by NHS24.  Call 111 (at any time) to access this.

If the phone assessment determines that you need to be seen this will be arranged at the Assessment Centre at Oban Hospital.  Patients with symptoms suggestive of COVID19 will NOT be seen in the surgery.  We have no testing available here.

If someone is too ill to attend the Assessment Centre we will contact them to discuss assessment at home, initially by video link (which can be done using any computer or smartphone) or by home visit.  Obviously home visiting risks the visiting clinician becoming infected so this can only be done when totally necessary and when appropriate personal protective equipment is available.

To achieve this the following practices have been put in place

  • All consultations will be by phone in the first instance - if you wish an appointment call as early as you can in the day and the GP will call you back.  Perhaps your problem can be dealt with over the phone, if not a video call or face to face appointment will be arranged.  If you are asked to come to the surgery please do not bring anyone else in with you, do not arrive early, and wash your hands when you arrive
  • Repeat medication can be requested in the normal ways.
  • When you come to collect your medication please knock on the fire door on the side of the building then stand back at the foot of the steps. Your medication will be then put outside for you to collect. Please maintain the 2m distance from staff.
  • Medication deliveries by volunteers are being done in all areas.
  • Lismore - visits by the GPs have been suspended this week but will resume whenever we are able.  We hope to make use of video consultations.  A scheme has been set up for the delivery of prescriptions to your home.
  • We have been asked to facilitate care of those who become ill by making sure we have up to date information on our systems, which can be shared with our of hours and hospital services.  Information like past medical history and current medication is already shared but to this we can add Next of Kin, Power of Attorney details if appropriate, along with details of key holders or anyone available to assist or care for those living alone.  There are also questions around how much intervention is appropriate should someone become seriously ill.  This is an unprecedented situation and sadly it is possible that the NHS will not be able to provide hospital or intensive care facilities for everyone.  Please consider having discussions about these difficult issues with those close to you.  We will be phoning people to gather information so it would be helpful to have thought about the details you wish to be recorded in advance.

How to protect yourself and others -

  • Wash hands frequently with warm water and soap
  • avoid touching your face
  • catch coughs/sneezes in a paper hankie and bin it
  • elderly folk and those with long term health conditions are at greater risk so should reduce their social contacts and attendance at events
  • if you start with any cold/flu-type symptoms isolate yourself at home for 7 days.

Think of others in the community, particularly those living alone. Would they appreciate a phone call to check they are ok? Do they need practical help with food shopping, medication collection, dog walking etc?

Repeat prescriptions

Please be patient.

With the current issues being faced by the Practice, this is putting extra strain on our dispensary.  For this reason there may be slight delays in the making up of prescriptions.

There is now a delivery service available  for all patients unable to come to the surgery - please phone for further information.

The Surgery will be closed to Patients between 12.15pm and 1.00pm every day.

Online services

This is the link to our online services.

Unfortunately our website design tries to send you elsewhere - we are working to resolve this.

Currently we are using both repeat prescription services but are moving to the one in this link as it gives direct access to your list of repeat medications.

Please register for our online services by contacting the surgery for a form, and move to this new system.
